Before you send a case forward to a step where someone new will gain access, particularly if the next step is associated with a new academic unit, you should have a double-check moment.

Before sending forward, you should check:

Readiness of All Departments/Schools

Cases with review in multiple departments should not be sent forward to the next academic unit until all peer units have finished their work. This implies that all departments must finish their work before the initiating department sends the case to the first school step. This applies between schools before sending the case to the first APO step as well. Also, all departments' fields in the certification forms should be completed (i.e., all departments' materials should be certified) before sending a case to the first school step, as detailed in the Candidate Certification article linked near the bottom of this page.

Committee at the Next Step

  • Is the correct committee at the next step?
  • Should anyone on the committee be recused from the case?
  • Will you need to notify them outside of Interfolio? (If someone has access at the current step and at the next step, Interfolio won't notify them of their access again.)

Administrative Recusals

  • Are the administrators in your academic unit properly recused on steps beyond your unit?
  • See the article, Who Should Have Access to Case Steps in Interfolio? linked below for more information.

Case Materials Access

  • Have you set the permissions for any your case materials in such a way that people on future steps would be unable to access them? Should you change these permissions to allow access?

Subject Line in the Notification Message

  • If you're sending the forward to an APO step, does the notification subject include the name of the action? (It always should.)
