Zoom with Us Again

We would like to extend a very sincere “thank you” to everyone who logged into last week’s inaugural Zoom with Opus session, where we demonstrated Document Sharing and Candidate Certification. If you missed this teleconferenced class and have any questions on this topic, please feel free to reach out to the Opus support team at opushelp@ucla.edu.

Also, we’d like to thank those who responded to our post-session survey and shared their ideas about the topic for our next session. As a result of feedback received through that survey, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve slated another Zoom with Opus session, this time about Multi-Department Review: How to Collaborate with Other Departments in Opus/Interfolio. We’ll view processes for departments who start these cases and for the departments with whom they share case access. We’ll hold this session on Friday, February 9th. You can register, as always, on our sign-up sheet — please sign up early!

Support

Online Cases, In-Person Help

Staff from Academic Personnel and the Opus project hold regular “office hours” to assist Opus users with cases, and to answer questions about Opus and Interfolio. Our next sessions are this Friday and next Wednesday. Please sign up for a timeslot on our Office Hours Google Spreadsheet and remember to bring any relevant case files or materials with you.

Reminders

Solicit Feedback from an Appointee’s Other Affiliations

When preparing a case for a candidate with an additional appointment or affiliation outside of your department, please remember that your department needs to solicit an evaluation from that other group, whether it’s a campus research center, IDP, or CII. Appendix 37 of The CALL requires that the primary department take note of the candidate’s contributions in such collaborative activity and, where appropriate, seek input regarding such contributions from the interdisciplinary organization. It is also important to recognize the stipulation in The CALL that requires departments to seek such input with respect to any affiliation that candidates may have (whether officially joint appointees or not) with other academic bodies on the campus (e.g., affiliation with research centers, interdisciplinary degree programs, centers for interdisciplinary instruction, and the like).

For more information about giving another department’s academic personnel staff access to a case, please see the article Multi-Department Review? Can Do!, in last week’s Newsletter.
