The Case Review Steps in Interfolio compose the workflow of an academic review case. When you, as a staff administrator, send a case forward to the next Interfolio step, you are granting case access to the committees assigned at that step. As an administrator, your case access will remain unchanged when you send the case to steps within your department. When you send a case forward to the dean's office, however, you will lose access to it.
But before you send a case forward, you need to figure out if the candidate should have access to their Candidate Packet sections within Interfolio as we discuss below in Step 5 .
Summary
Step 1. Log into Interfolio
Step 2. View the Cases Page
Step 3. Open the Case
Step 4. Click "Send Case" Button
Step 5. Click "Notify Candidate" Button if Necessary
Step 6. Click "Forward To" Button
Step 1. Log into Interfolio
You can access Interfolio either by clicking on links in a case notification email you receive, or by navigating to their website directly at www.interfolio.com. Instructions for logging in can be found in the article How to Access Interfolio for Administrators, linked near the bottom of this page.
Step 2. View the Cases Page
When you first log in, Interfolio shows you the Dashboard page. Click the "Cases" link at the left. Then search by candidate's name or scroll through your case list to find them.
Step 3. Open the Case
Click the candidate's name in the list that appears.

Step 4. Click "Send Case" Button
Interfolio opens the Case page with the Case Materials tab activated. Click the "Send Case" button in the upper-right.

Step 5. Click "Notify Candidate" Button if Necessary
If the candidate is involved in their own review (even if just to certify the accuracy of the packet contents at the beginning of the case), you will need to notify them before sending the case forward to Step 1. Notifying the candidate means sending them an email through Interfolio. It is also an access control point: if you don't go through the Notify Candidate process before sending the packet to "Department: Prepare Dossier," the candidate cannot gain access to this packet, ever.

If you wish to compose a message to the candidate (in particular, if you want to let them know that they can disregard the link above, and that they should wait to hear from you again before they take any action), click the "Include a personal message with this email" checkbox and compose a message.

Step 6. Click "Forward To" Button
When you are ready to send the case to the next Interfolio step, use the "Forward to" option as shown below.

By default, Interfolio will email committee members who gain access to the case at the next step. You can disable this notification by unchecking the "Send a message to the reviewers gaining access" checkbox visible in the screenshot below. This is a handy feature when you've "worked ahead" and need to send the case through multiple steps — disabling this feature when you send forward each time allows you to send forward "silently."

Typically, though, you will want to use Interfolio's notification feature. Compose a message to the people gaining access and click the "Continue" button.

After sending forward, Interfolio automatically reloads the Cases list. If you still have access to the case at the new step, you can verify the case's current step by doing the following:
- Click the "back" button in your browser to return to the case
- Open the "Edit Case" view by selecting this option under the "Case Options" button
- Click the "Case Review Steps" link.
The screen that appears displays the case steps, with the current step marked with a green icon, as shown below.
