Opus projects eligibility for five years into the future by looking at the current series, rank, and step of each academic appointee, and at the data in various fields of their profile. This data is then compared to policy in order to predict when the appointee will become eligible for different actions.

Users often want to know which specific data in Opus is used to calculate eligibility for a particular action, and if they find a discrepancy, how to fix it. The information below presents this information on a per-action basis.

4th Year Appraisal & 8 Year Limit are affected by:

The Credited Service Years: Total, the TOC Credited, and the TOC Taken fields in the Eight Year Clock subpage on the Profile page.

Users can directly adjust values in the Credited Service Years: Total and TOC Taken fields. However, to adjust the value in the TOC Credited field, users should contact Opus Help at at opushelp@ucla.edu. See the article, What Do I Need to Do in Order to Ensure the Eligibility Calculations Are Correct? linked near the bottom of this page for specific instructions on making adjustments to fields on the 8 Year Clock page.

Excellence clock is affected by:

The Credited Service Years: Total field in the Excellence Clock tab on the Profile page.

Users can directly adjust values in the Credited Service Years: Total field.

Merits and Promotions are affected by:

The Date of Last Advancement field on the Profile page, along with the faculty’s Series, Rank and Step. The value in the Date of Last Advancement field is affected by completed cases. Note, this data is updated by cases on the effective date — the Profile page does not show dates as they "would be," were open cases closed.

Users should contact Opus help at opushelp@ucla.edu if the Date of Last Advancement field needs to be updated.

Renewals and Reappointments are affected by:

The value in the Appointment End Date field on the Profile page.

Users should contact Opus help at opushelp@ucla.edu to update the Appointment End Date.

5- and 4-Year Reviews are affected by:

The Effective Date of either the last 5 (or 4) Year Review, or the last Appointment, Merit, Promotion, Merit Equity Review, or Unit 18 Initial Continuing Appointment — the projected eligibility date will be 5 years beyond whichever of these is latest.

To fix a missing or mistaken Effective Date, Users should contact Opus help at opushelp@ucla.edu.

Waiver Renewals are affected by:

The value in the Waiver End Date field on the Profile page.

Users should contact Opus help at opushelp@ucla.edu to update the Waiver End Date.
