At UCLA we use the term “committee” to describe either a standing or ad hoc committee, formed for the purpose of academic review. Interfolio, on the other hand, uses this term to describe groups of people who have access to a case at a given step. There are three different types of committees that can be added to Interfolio case steps: Standing Committees, Ad-Hoc Committees, and Individual Users.

Interfolio's standing committees are persistent committees that departments maintain and use for multiple cases. UCLA staff create these in order to give case access to specific groups of people. Some of these groups are analogous to UCLA's own "standing committees" (e.g., a department review committee), while others — such as the ubiquitous X Dept Admin Committee — are created solely for working with cases in Interfolio.

Note: If you feel you need to make a change to a Dean, Chair or Administrator committee, or if anyone is listed incorrectly, contact the Opus team so we can fix the permissions. DO NOT edit these committees yourself. The Opus team needs to correct the permissions in Opus. Also, DO NOT change the names of these committees—doing so would adversely impact the communication between the Opus and Interfolio.

Interfolio's ad-hoc committees, on the other hand, are temporary committees that can only be used on the case where they're created. They are used for committees formed for the purpose of just one case. Ad-hoc committees are also commonly used for multi-department review cases, where the department that initiates a case needs to grant case access to personnel from an auxiliary department.

Interfolio's individual user committee type allows people to be granted case access on an individual basis. Opus recommends that our users do not use this feature.

Note: Users will change membership of standing committees only for certain reasons. If you want to make a change to one of these committees and aren't sure about whether you should, please contact Opus Help before doing so.
