Once a case has been reviewed and all the decisions surrounding it have been made, it’s time to record those decisions and close the case.

  !

Note: If you want to delete a case instead of closing it, use the Case Deletion icon (the trash can) at the far-right of the case’s row. Depending on whether the case has moved beyond the department or not (i.e., if it has gone to a committee), the case will either be archived or deleted when you use this feature— either way, it won’t be visible on the Cases page any longer.

This article tells you how to close a case in Opus. The instructions assume you’re already logged into Opus and your permissions allow you to access the relevant features. For info about interface elements or a particular Opus page, check out the other articles on this support site — some of these articles are linked near the bottom of this page.

1. Open the Cases Page

Navigate to the Cases page by clicking "Jump To" and then "Cases" near the top of the window.

2. Open the Case Summary

Scroll down through the data table on the Cases page, or use the table's column filters to find the case you’re looking for. Once you’ve found it, click the pencil icon in the left column of its row (see screenshot above). This opens the Case Summary page:

3. Edit the Final Decision

Scroll down and click the pencil icon in the header of the Final Decision section. This will open the Final Decision modal window.

4. Pre-Populate the Decision Data Fields

In the modal window that appears, click the "Pre-Populate the Fields Below" button (or buttons — if the case you’re closing uses an appointment set, you’ll have have a separate section and button for each appointment in the set). This updates the decision fields with previously entered case data. If this information has been changed since it was first entered, you’ll need to correct some of the pre-populated data:

  !

Note: When you close a case that uses an appointment set, the Office of Academic Personnel will update all appointments in the set on the effective date, regardless of waiver status.

5. Complete the Case

Once the case information is correct and you’ve entered any necessary comments, click the "Complete the Case" button. If you forget to fill out a required field, Opus will ask you to do that before continuing.

The Success pop-up. Click this image to view a larger version.

Once you see the Success message, you’re done. Click "OK" or the X icon to close the window and move on to the next thing!

What Happens in Interfolio
