For New Academic Appointees

The primary department starts a new case using the Appointment action, after which the additional departments start new cases for Joint Appointment or Split Appointment actions, using the instructions in the For Existing Academic Appointees section below. The primary department is also responsible for notifying the additional department(s) that the case for the primary appointment has been started.

For Existing Academic Appointees

The additional department(s) each start a case using a Joint Appointment or Split Appointment action. While starting their case(s), they select the primary appointment in the Existing Appointment Selection screen in the Start a Case modal window — for more info see the article on starting cases, linked near the bottom of this page. Selecting the existing appointment links the new appointment to the existing one and creates an appointment set, which allows Opus to apply case actions to these appointments simultaneously in the future.

Approving Split Appointments

When approving Split Appointments:

  • BOTH departments should confirm the salary displayed is the TOTAL salary for both appointments.

  • BOTH departments should confirm the appointment percent time is correct in each department.

  • BOTH departments should confirm the start dates are correct for each appointment. The start dates should reflect the earliest date at Series, Rank and Step, not the date started in the new department.
