This article provides instructions for the Educational Activities section used by the School of Medicine.

Note: Faculty who have joint or split appointments in the School of Medicine will see the new Educational Activities section at the bottom of their Activities page. The section should be left blank unless your home department is within the School of Medicine. It will NOT be displayed on your data summary.

Educational Activities

The Educational Activities section was designed for the wide variety of activities conducted by faculty in the School of Medicine. All activities that could be defined as educational in nature should be listed here, including clinical instruction, didactic sessions, simulations, and more.

Terms and Date Ranges

Faculty 180 requires a start and end term for nearly all activities. The start and end term is only used when creating data summaries and CVs. It does not need to be completely accurate as long as the data are in the correct review period.

The Date / Date Range field allows you to enter more detail about the date or timing of an activity. For example, you may want to list the activity as having occurred on multiple dates (4/1/23; 5/1/23; 8/1/23). Or you may wish to note that the activity occurs every Fall. Or you may wish to note that it was a two week seminar that took place from 10/15/23-11/1/23. Any of these options can be added to the Date / Date Range field.

Type of Activity

Choose the type of activity that most closely corresponds to your work. If none of the values is a good match, choose "other" and enter your own activity type.

Documenting Creative Activities: Health Sciences Clinical Series

As you update each section on the Activities page, you'll see a section called Activity Classifications. Here you can flag each record as "Advancing Diversity", "Interdisciplinary", or as a "Creative Contribution".

Appendix 8 of The UCLA Call notes that faculty in the HS Clinical Series must demonstrate creative contributions to administrative, academic, or scholarly activities. Examples include: development of or contributions to educational curricula, participation in the advancement of professional education, development of or contributions to clinical guidelines or pathways, etc. See The Call for more examples.

Check the box for Creative Contribution on those records you believe demonstrate creative contributions.
