The Opus Website is produced by the Opus Project Team, from UCLA IT Services and the Academic Affairs and Personnel Office. Opus is the information system of record for academic appointees at UCLA. See the articles linked near the bottom of this page to learn more about the project.

Website Functionalities

The core functionality of Opus is to facilitate academic review. In order to accomplish this, it allows academic personnel staff to manage data for academic appointees in their department, and provides several functions related to this task. Working with Opus, users can:

  • Start, report on, and close academic review cases

  • Perform case management activities

  • View Eligibility data for appointees in their unit

  • View a Salary Report for appointees in their unit

  • View a list of appointees in their unit with the AppointmentsRoster

  • View Profiles for academic appointees

  • Request University IDs

The Opus website is closely integrated with the Interfolio system, which provides academic review case management features for Opus users. Interfolio allows Opus users to:

  • Perform online academic review

  • Manage case materials

  • Work with committees

  • Communicate with others regarding review

  • Record vote outcomes

For more information about the Opus-Interfolio integration, see the article About Opus and Interfolio, linked near the bottom of this page.

Accessing Opus

Currently the Opus website itself can only be accessed by UCLA staff, deans and department chairs. For academic review cases, Opus also allows review candidates and review committee members to participate through its integration with Interfolio — but users in these roles access Interfolio rather than Opus itself. If users feel that they should have access to Opus or Interfolio, they should contact their school's academic personnel office. The Opus Website can be found at opus.ucla.edu. If a user has not logged in, clicking the Sign In button on that page will display the UCLA Logon screen, which will allow them to enter their UCLA Logon ID, following the established procedure for logging into university websites.

Data security

Data access is managed through login-based permissions. When an academic personnel staff member logs in, they can view data for academic appointees within their department or school — they cannot edit or view data for any other academic appointees. More information about data security can be found on the Privacy page.

Working in Opus

Opus allows users to start cases, to close cases, to request University IDs for academic appointees, to view eligibility, and to adjust salary ranges. For more information about these tasks, see the link to the task guides, near the bottom of this page.
