Official Policy

Academic Personnel Manual: The primary source for all academic policy.

This manual defines all policies and procedures pertaining to the employment relationship between an academic appointee and the University of California. The manual addresses policy as it relates to appointment and promotion, recruitment, salary administration, benefits and privileges, and all other general academic policy.

The CALL

Specific delegations of approval authority and procedures relating to academic actions are outlined at each campus of the University of California. Each campus is responsible for maintaining a local campus procedures manual. At UCLA, our manual is entitled "The Call."

The CALL describes in detail policy and local procedure as they pertain to the Faculty Review Process at UCLA, implementing the general policies set forth in the Academic Personnel Manual. It indicates types of actions requiring review, required reviewing agencies, and the various levels of approval authority. It serves as the central source of information for faculty, academic administration, the Senate, and departmental administrative personnel. Its policies and procedures are the result of the workings of shared governance at UCLA.
